Our home-away-from-home for RailsConf 2020 will be the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Portland, which longtime Rubyists may remember was also our conference hotel at RailsConf 2013! Boasting a strong commitment to sustainability and proximity (.5 miles) to the Oregon Convention Center, we highly recommend the DoubleTree as the place to stay for RailsConf 2020.
We've secured fantastic discounted rates of $184/night for single queen rooms and $214/night for single king rooms or double queen rooms for RailsConf attendees!Book your room
Also, a great perk from our host city is that RailsConf attendees receive complimentary TriMet passes (more on this in Getting Around!)! For those staying at the DoubleTree, you'll be receiving those free passes at check-in, vs. having to wait till registration opens on May 5.
Portland is a fairly compact city, and easy to navigate via plentiful public transit options. On that note, we are extremely excited to announce that we have secured complimentary TriMet passes for our first 1,200 RailsConf attendees, valid from Mon, May 4th through Fri, May 8th! These passes allow attendees to take any TriMet public transit, including the MAX light rail, buses, and streetcars.
We will be distributing passes to attendees at conference registration starting on the morning of May 5; however, for those staying at the DoubleTree, we will have a limited amount available to you as soon as you check in, which means you can use it for any outings throughout the city before the conference officially begins!
Of note: while the conference venue (the Oregon Convention Center) and hotel (DoubleTree by Hilton) are only .5 miles apart, approximately a 10-minute walk, they are also directly connected by the MAX light rail -- just two stops apart using the Red, Green, or Blue Line!
Our conference venue and hotel are located in the Lloyd District of Portland, right across the Willamette River from downtown, and about 8 miles from the Portland International Airport (PDX). From the airport, you have several options available to you to get to our conference venue/hotel or other points in the city, including MAX light rail, taxis, ride-share services, rental cars, and hotel shuttles. These options are clearly marked at PDX, but you may also want to watch this explanatory video as well.
For those taking MAX light rail, you will take the Red Line for 8 stops ($2.50 / approximately 25 minutes), exiting at the Lloyd Center / NE 11th Avenue station. From this stop, you should see the DoubleTree right at the corner of NE 11th Avenue and NE Holladay Street.
You can also take taxis (20-40 min/$35-40), rideshares, or airport shuttles from the airport to the conference hotel/venue. More information on how to find these at each of these at PDX is listed here.
