For those booking flights to Pittsburgh, please note our general schedule for RailsConf has us starting our days around 9:30am and ending them around 6pm. Registration on Day 1 (Tuesday, April 17) will open approximately two hours before programming begins. On Day 3 (Thursday, April 19), we will be ending programming around 5-6pm. All three days are full days of programming; we will not be having any workshop- or tutorial-only days.
We have now fully booked up our conference hotel, so we've opened up a second block at the nearby Courtyard Marriott Pittsburgh Downtown, located one block over from the Convention Center. The negotiated rate is $189.00/night, and available via the below link -- rooms will certainly book up fast, so be sure to grab your room soon!
Getting There
Our conference venue and hotel, located in downtown Pittsburgh, are about 20 miles from Pittsburgh International Airport. The airport is serviced by taxis, ride share services, and shuttles. Taxis cost about $40 one-way and the drive takes around 30 minutes.
Additionally, the Port Authority operates an airport bus (#28X) that goes from directly outside Baggage Claim (at Door 6) to downtown Pittsburgh. This line has a stop at Liberty/Wood, from which you can walk a few blocks east on Liberty to get to the conference hotel. This route costs $2.75 one way (payable in exact change) and takes about 40 minutes.
Getting Around
Pittsburgh is a city of many waterways, hills, and bridges. As such, the streets have a tendency to be slightly confusing, due to not being laid out in clear grid patterns. While downtown is compact and walkable, it is advisable to regularly check to make sure you’re headed the right way! For those seeking public transit, there are buses and a lightrail operated by the Port Authority -- tickets are $2.75/ride or $7 for a day pass.
